| Frequently
Asked Questions (faq) |
When
I board my dog, will he get to be out of his kennel much? |
Yes,
all boarding dogs have full access to the daycare play area during
the day. |
How
many dogs are here during the day? |
We
average 30 dogs at any given time. |
Do
they get to go outside? |
We
offer a large outside run area that is also used for fresh air and
potty breaks. It has an 8 foot high chain linked fenced area which
is puppy proofed for even the smallest of dogs. |
Where
do they sleep at night? |
Our
Large crates are 4’ x 2 ½’ and would comfortably
hold a large lab. We also have Medium crates 40” x 27”
for cocker spaniel size dogs and (2) X-large crates for Great Dane
size dogs. |
What
do the dogs do all day? |
The
dogs are separated into 4 play groups depending on size & temperament
and allowed to play among themselves with dog handlers supervising
at all times. |
Do
we need to bring our own dog food? |
Yes,
we want you to bring your dog’s own food in so their diet
doesn’t change
while they are at Rover’s.
|
Do
I need to do to get my dog in for daycare or boarding? |
Prior
to boarding or daycare, 1st time clients need to fill out and return
our Dog Owner forms along with proof of vaccinations. |
What
vaccinations does my dog need? |
Rabies,
Parvo/Distemper and Bordetella for kennel cough. |
Do
all the dogs get along? |
All
new dogs are screened by our trained staff and are introduced
into the general play group in a carefully scripted manner, to make
sure there are no conflicts or confrontations with other dogs on
the floor.
|
Are
the dogs supervised? |
We
have trained Pack Leaders on the floor with the dogs at all times
when they are out of their kennels. |
Do
you train dogs? |
No,
but we do consistently work with the dogs on basic good behavior,
for instance: barking or jumping up is discouraged. |
How
do you discipline dogs? |
We
begin by using a verbal command; next would be the use of a squirt
of
water, and lastly, green apple spray. |
Can
the dogs get out? |
No,
but we do request that you bring your dog in and out on a leash
for safety reasons. |
Do
you do grooming? |
We
offer full-service grooming services by appointment. Please call
us to find out more and schedule an appointment. |
Do
you board cats? |
Yes.
We have a spacious cat condo where cats can also play all day or
sleep all day, depending on their mood. |
Where
do the cats stay? |
We
offer a separate room with personal crates for the felines and also
a room for them to roam in. |
Can
I bring my dog’s own toys in? |
Yes,
we encourage you to do that. You can also bring their bedding and
anything else that would make them feel more comfortable while they
stay with us. We recommend that you do not bring any valuables,
however, as things often get chewed up. |
Can
I drop off or pick up my pet on Saturday or Sunday? |
|
We
do board pets over the weekends and holidays as well but they have
to be dropped off and picked up during our regular business hours,
Monday through Friday from 7am to 6:30pm and Saturday 8-10am and 4-6pm. Please call us in advance
to make reservations for boarding.
|
How
often do you give them water? |
There
is water in the kennels and on the playground floor at all times
so your dog can have as much water as they want at any time, whether
they are playing or resting. |
Do
the little dogs play with the big dogs? |
Most
of the time we group dogs in play groups by size, but that isn’t
always the case. If a little dog likes to play with the big dogs,
we can put him in that group and vice versa. The safety of each
dog is our primary concern, when we do that. |
Where
do the dogs go to the bathroom? |
We
have an attached securely fenced outdoor area where the dogs are
periodically taken for their potty breaks. |
So
what is Doggie Daycare?
|
It
works just like Daycare for human babies. Dropping your dog off
in the morning on the way to work, and while you slave away, your
pampered pooch is pampered indeed! Depending on both your dog's
activity level, and the curriculum set out by the Daycare owners,
he may enjoy his day by playing with other dogs, playing with people,
inside or outside, or he may be the type to while away the hours
ensconced on somebody's couch, getting loving attention. |
How
much does Doggie Daycare cost?
|
Cost
can vary between $8.00 a day and $15.00 a day, depending on the
provider, whether the daycare is operated out of a private home,
or a fully-staffed facility. |
In-home
daycares are often cheaper, and are restricted to a low number of
dogs being cared for at any given time. If your dog is of the anti-social
type, this may be the better option for you and your dog. In-home,
or private daycare operators offer your dog a home environment,
and more human-to-dog contact. |
A
fully-staffed facility offers much for social dog. Often the number
of dogs on a day at these places can be from 10 to twenty dogs,
all ready to make friends. Trained staff keep the dogs busy in outdoor
play, or even, in some cases, happily munching snacks (healthy,
of course!) watching movies made just for the entertainment of dogs.
Activities might include "hide and seek", or "tag",
or anything that canine minds can come up with. Staff is often trained
to deal with any outbreak of aggression that might result, and also
has a standing agreement with a local veterinarian should an emergency
arise.
|
In
both private and commercial daycares, dogs must present proof of
current vaccinations, and all must be healthy, to prevent the spread
of infectious diseases and parasites.
|
How
will I know which is best for my dog? |
This
may be between you and your dog. Where do you feel more comfortable
leaving him? Where do you feel your dog will be most comfortable
and happy? Talk to the operators, and go with your instincts. If
anything seems out of line, move on. You'll know by the time you
pick your dog up at the end of the day that you made the right decision. |
How
do I find a Doggie Daycare in my area?
|
Most
private Doggie daycare providers are listed in your local newspaper
Classified Ads section. For a full facility, you can also check
in the yellow pages of your phone book. Word of mouth is a great
way to find somebody that everybody else recommends. Ask your friends
who also have pets. |
